Brian Barrett is a skilled goldsmith and designer with more than 60 years’ experience in London and Wellington.
While his focus is on designing and manufacturing fine jewellery, he is also highly skilled in repairing damaged or time-worn items. He also welcomes the opportunity to work closely with clients to remodel treasured pieces.
Brian and his wife, Helen, work from a purpose-built studio in Karori which they opened in 1999. Their quality products are backed up by friendly, personal and professional service.

We Do
As a goldsmith, Brian can design and make any type of classic or contemporary jewellery, including engagement and wedding rings, anniversary rings, coloured-stone rings, signet rings, pendants, earrings and cufflinks.
He also carries out repairs and re-modelling work.

Brian Barrett
Brian’s formal training as a goldsmith was at the London Central School of Art & Crafts, and was followed by many years working as a designer and diamond mounter in Hatton Garden, London’s jewellery quarter.
During this time he specialised in working in platinum. It is a technically demanding metal to work with as it is not at all forgiving and requires an extremely high level of skill to attain perfection. Brian has excelled in this field of expertise.
After emigrating Brian ran two successful large jewellery manufacturing companies, and firmly established himself in New Zealand as a leading manufacturer and designer.
The formation of BHB Designs Ltd has enabled him to maximise his skills and focus on his greatest love which is designing and creating individual items.
All items of jewellery are hand-crafted by Brian to the highest standard and carry a guarantee of quality.
While Brian is at the bench, Helen ensures that all other facets of the business run smoothly, handling everything from a client’s initial enquiry, through to office management and accounts. As she puts it, “I do everything except making the jewellery – but I love meeting with clients to talk about it.”
Together, she and Brian provide a unique, personal experience. By operating on an appointment-only basis from their private studio, they provide a relaxed, one-on-one environment, allowing clients to discuss their requirements at their own pace.
